Over the past few months, we’ve been running some polls across social media. ‘Cyber Security Market Research’ presents the findings from some of these. We’d love to hear what you think they might demonstrate and we’ve offered some brief notes on that for your delectation.
Whilst the votes accrued via this platform were small in number, they still generated some interesting findings:
Is AI a benefit or threat to cyber security?
Benefit 40%
Threat 60%
When was the last time you had a pen test?
In the last 6 months 100%
In the last 12 months 0%
1+ year ago 0%
Haven’t had one 0%
When was the last time you had a vulnerability scan?
In the last 6 months 100%
In the last 12 months 0%
1+ year ago 0%
Haven’t had one 0%
To recap; though a tight result, AI is seen by most as a threat to cyber security. The fact that it was such a close race could show that a lot of you see the positives. It is definitely a debate that will go on, so we may then run another such poll in the future. What is your stance? Let us know in the comments below.
It would also appear that most respondents have run recent penetration tests and vulnerability scans. This is a real positive, demonstrating that our respondents are clearly taking cyber security seriously. When was the last time you ran either of these vital security checks?
It stands to reason that we ran similar polls on Twitter but the results were a little different and the voters higher in number:
Is AI a benefit or threat to cyber security?
Benefit 28.6%
Threat 71.4%
When was the last time you had a pen test?
In the last 6 months 25%
In the last 12 months 0%
1+ year ago 0%
Haven’t had one 75%
When was the last time you had a vulnerability scan?
In the last 6 months 0%
In the last 12 months 66.8%
1+ year ago 33.1%
Haven’t had one 0.1%
Most of our respondents on Twitter saw AI as a definite threat to cyber security – what, if anything, does that tell us about Twitter users? Or LinkedIn users? It would be unwise to draw any concrete conclusions but given the results to the other 2 questions, perhaps Twitter users have less faith in cyber security? Whilst most have had vulnerability scans in the past year, far too many have never had a pen test. Let us know your thoughts and interpretations and we’ll definitely run more similar polls in the months ahead!
Conclusion
In ‘Cyber Security Market Research’, we have featured some poll results which contained enough votes to deliver solid reports. Though by no means conclusive – but then again, which polls or surveys truly are? – hopefully this is an interesting read. As ever, we welcome feedback, so please do leave a comment or 2 below.
